Poultry Show at CCJLSA
Please see information below and embedded regarding poultry show next week.
- Sift will be 9-11 a.m.
(previous years we have started at 8. With a total of 120 entries, there
will be ample time to process entries. Pens arriving in line after 11 a.m.
will not show.
- Turkeys will show first, then
broilers, then showmanship. We have junior, intermediate and senior
showmanship — six total buckles on offer for your feeders! Please
encourage them to participate.
- The Poultry Committee is
partnering with We're All In/Kids Feeding Kids to donate 50-60 broilers to
local family and youth shelters. The success of this partnership will come
from broiler exhibitors donating a market quality bird (white, red or blue
ribbon show quality) on show day. This is a voluntary donation and the
poultry committee is arranging processing and delivery. (We don't have the
capacity to accept turkeys this year.)
- Be sure to remind your
first-time exhibitors particularly about appropriate show attire.
- We have Remind signups to
help give updates for broiler and turkey shows, especially regarding sale
time on Saturday.
CCJLSA membership meeting minutes
Last night (12/6/2021 at the CCJLSA membership meeting, the following items were discussed. Please share this info with the booster clubs that you meet with.
(1) Wurstfest: we reported gross sales of $105,023 to Wurstfest. After expenses, insurance, etc were deducted - we have a net of $42,248.35. This money is spent by the Auction committee during the SALE
(2) Gala - the Gala is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the New Braunfels Events Center. The band has been booked and we are working on finalizing the caterer for the event. Invitations will be sent after the 2022 youth show to those buyers who purchased something during the show. Smithson Valley FFA is responsible for decoration and clean up of the gala. New Braunfels FFA and Canyon Lake FFA are responsible for the silent auction.
(3) Raffle tickets are at the printer and will be ready to hand out in December. Each chapter will be given a set number of tickets to sell. Raffle ticket money is used by the Auction committee during the SALE
(4) The January CCJLSA meeting will be held Monday, January 10 at the Comal County Fairgrounds. Please note this is a change in location. A rule change proposal for the 2023 Youth show will be presented for the membership to vote on. Only those individuals who are PAID members of CCJLSA by December 1, 2021 (last week) will be eligible to vote. Membership will be checked when entering the meeting before voting cards will be handed out.
The rule change proposal is: Animals will be designated as either Market Sale or Premium Sale at declaration. All Market sale and floored animals become the property of the association and as such are NOT eligible for any other shows. Castrated male hooved animal species and turkeys are the only animals eligible to be declared Premium. All Premium sale animals will sell the ribbon only and no floor price will be given, with ownership of the animal retained by the exhibitor. If an animal previously declared SALE is scratched on the day of the SALE, the animal will be floored and the exhibitor will receive a floor check.

2021 CCJLSA Hospitality
Below you will find the signup genius for working the hospitality booth at the CCJLSA auction. This year due to COVID restrictions we are asking that only Intermediate and Senior aged 4-H members sign up. We will still need parent help with shifts as well. Please signup as soon as possible! Remember High School students will need hours from each year they show for CCJLSA Scholarship purposes.

Important Information for CCJLSA 2021 Exhibitors
The following are changes that will be implemented at our
2021 Youth Show and must be followed completely.
*Your ag teacher/county agent will be giving you a COVID Protocol form that you and your parent need to sign. You will need to bring it with you to weigh
in and turn it in.
*Masks must be worn at all times when you are in the barn. This includes when you are in the show
ring. You may not take your mask off
while you are showing.
*When you are checking into the show ring, you will be given
a name tag with your entry number on it.
You must wear this while you are in the ring. It will help the ring men write down the
correct placing without having to get too close to the exhibitor. If you have more than one entry, you will
receive a new name tag for each animal.
*When you are finished showing, do NOT shake the judge’s
hand. Fist bump or elbow bump is
appropriate for this year.
*This year dispositions will be taken at the photography
table NOT THE LIVESTOCK OFFICE WINDOW.
You must take a photo with your animal before you leave the
fairgrounds.
*All animals except for the Grand and Reserve Grand will be picked
up by the floor buyer after the judging.
No animals will go across the auction block with the exception of
Grand/Reserve Grand. You will go onto
the auction stage with just your ribbon, banner, buckle and/or trophy. A slide
show will be set up and playing while the auction is going on. The picture you took on the day you showed
will be shown when you are on the stage.
*We will need students to help with the runners committee on
the day of the auction. Please check in
at the office window and we will help you get to the runners table.
*CCJLSA will not be running the concession stand this
year. If you are a high school student
and plan to apply for a CCJLSA scholarship, you must get your volunteer hours
in somewhere during the show. There are
plenty of opportunities for you to get some volunteer time in. The poultry show
is February 20, Lambs will set up and show on February 28, Goats will set up
and show on March 1, Rabbits will set up and show on March 3, Hogs check in on
the evening of March 3 and show on March 4, Steers check in on the evening of
March 4 and show on March 5. We will be
setting up the auction ring and hospitality area on Friday evening. You can check in at the livestock office
window to find out where you can help.
Volunteer forms are also available in the livestock office.
*We need to limit the number of people that come to the
show. We are asking that you invite
immediate family only. We are setting up
a livestream so others can watch the auction from home. More information about that will be coming as
soon as we have it confirmed. We know this is not the way you and your family
planned but the pandemic has forced us to make changes in order to have a
county show at all.
We appreciate your compliance with all these items. We do not want to get the show cancelled
completely so it will take all of us doing all we can to follow these
guidelines!
CCJLSA Scholarship - Due March 31
CCJLSA Scholarship Rules & Guidelines due March 31, 2021
- Applicant's family are members of the CCJLSA by Dec. 1 each year the student exhibited.
- Applicant's are members in good standing in the FFA or 4-H at the time of application.
- Applicant's participated as exhibitors in the show for at least 2 years during high school.
- Applicant must have participated in operation of the Concession stand, or another part of the Show & Sale process, during the Stock Show and Sale each year they exhibited in the show during their high school years. Students should collect documentation for the activities in which they participated. The following information is required: (1) Student Name and Club Affiliation, (2) Signature of Adult in charge of concession stand, or any activity in which the student actively participated to assist the CCJLSA.
The CCJLSA President will appoint a committee to review and select scholarship winners. Scholarship
recipients will be selected from applications received from FFA Booster Clubs and the 4-H Extension
office. If the schools and 4H program do not fulfill their 3 scholarships, the unfulfilled scholarships will
be placed in a pool. The remaining scholarships will be awarded to those students who qualify based on
a ranking system but were not selected in the first round of awards. Winners’ names will be given to the

organizations for recognition at their Awards programs. The recipients are then required to turn in a
copy of their tuition payment for the fall or spring semester from the school they are attending and a
thank-you note to the association in order to receive payment. Expiration of this scholarship award is
April 1st of the following year the award is originally made.

The Poultry
Show (both broilers and turkeys) has been moved to Saturday, February 20, 2021.
Show times will remain the same. See the rule book below.
Lamb & Goat Show Announcement
The Lamb & Goat Show been moved to Monday, March 1, 2021. Show arrival will be Sunday, February 28, 2021.

CCJLSA COVID Protocol
Below you will find the Covid-19 protocol for all exhibitors at the 2021 Comal County Junior Livestock Show. Each exhibitor will need to sign the protocol form along with their parent/guardian. Those forms will need to be turned in to Extension Office by the January 28, 2021.
CCJLSA online entry information - due by November 6
This year the Comal
County Jr. Livestock Association is handling all ANIMAL entry forms
electronically for the 2021 CCJLS Show through their online entry program (ShoWorks). Below are the
instructions for exhibitors entering CCJLS. You will still need to turn in an entry form with payment to the Extension Office on or before November 4, 5 or 6 when we are taking entries for all livestock shows. No entries will be accepted after November 6th. Please make checks payable to Comal 4-H Council.

Out of an abundance of caution and following the recommendations of CDC, the Comal County Junior Livestock Show Association is making the following changes to events we had scheduled this spring:
April 25th Gala – postponed until further notice
We regret that we cannot honor our buyers that continue to support our organization and the agricultural youth of Comal County at the time we wanted to with our Blue Ribbon Gala celebration, but we will reschedule as soon as it is safe for our community to do so.
