Bluebonnet 4-H report

 Here is report from Atlee Homann, reporter.

The Bluebonnet 4H Club met on Sunday, 11/7/2021 at the Extension Office.  

We were honored to be visited by representatives from the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.  They invited us to join them for a full 2022 show and rodeo and to participate for their many scholarship opportunities.  

We had a presentation from the Comal County Friends of the Night Sky.  They strive to improve our night sky by minimizing light pollution and unnecessary light use in our area.  By reducing light pollution, we have a better opportunity to see stars in the sky.  

Some things we can all do to improve our night sky:

• turn off outside lights at night that are not necessary and/or limit security light use to those on motion sensors.
• point lights downward and use shields to limit upward shining of lights.
• use a lower temperature lightbulb--look for lightbulbs that are "IDA approved."

Bluebonnet 4-H report

The Bluebonnet 4-H club met Sunday, 5/16/2021 at 3pm at the National Guard Armory.

Our speaker was Mr. Daryl Schacht, head of the local chapter of Serve Outdoors. They provide hunting and fishing trips for Veterans/wounded warriors, kids from crisis centers and inner cities, those with disabilities, and those with special needs. It is a great organization that helps spread love and knowledge of the outdoors to many that might not otherwise have access. It is a great opportunity for 4-Hers to volunteer and help others.

We made 4-H themed coloring sheets to compile for coloring books to give away at special events, 4H booths, children's hospitals, etc.

Bluebonnet 4-H report

It's the report from Atlee Homann, reporter:

The Bluebonnet 4H Club met at the National Guard Armory on Sunday, April 11 at 3pm.  Kelly and Steven Jernigan gave an informative presentation on beekeeping.  It is a super complicated and fascinating activity that is important to agriculture.  Jymann Davis talked about the Walk Across Texas program, and our club will be planning how to start it.  For community service, we made dog toys for the local Humane Society.  We also voted to buy a bow, case, and arrows for the archery program. 

Gruene Kountry Feb. Meeting

Gruene Kountry 4-H Club had our February meeting on Zoom.  We met on Feb. 14 and we had 21 members present. 

Finley Nichols did a Health and Safety report on the 3 P's of Winter Weather: pets, plants, and pipes.

Finley also said that his community service project would end at the end of this week.  Items for pets and the homeless will be accepted.  Drop items off at the ext office porch.

Mrs. Kreusler went over camps, scholarships, and other updates.  We were reminded to keep up with the Comal 4-H blog.

Falon Cochran had a fun recreation.  She played 10 seconds from 10 different songs and we had to guess what the name of the song was.

Meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be March 21.

Gruene Kountry Nov Meeting

The Gruene Kountry 4-H Club met on Sunday, November 15 at the Extension Office amphitheater. 

There were 41 people in attendance:  30 members, 10 adults, and 1 sibling. 

After our business meeting, we listened to a presentation by our guest speaker, Dr. Steven Golla.  He talked to us about Emotional Intelligence and leadership.  He taught us that our thoughts have to travel through the part of the brain that controls our feelings.  We can let our emotions affect our thoughts and words.  We learned some strategies that even the marines use to help us in stressful situations, like counting and taking deep breaths.  We are all different types of leaders, but we can all use these strategies to be better at everything we do.   We also we collected Thanksgiving food items for Moms of NB Uncensored Thanksgiving Food Drive. 

Our next meeting is our Christmas party on Dec. 13.

Gruene Kountry One Day 4-H / October Meeting

Gruene Kountry met on Sunday, Oct. 18th at the Extension Office amphitheater.

There were 41 people present: 31 members, 9 adults, and 1 guest.

Finley Nichols gave a Health and Safety Report over fire safety.

Falon Cochran led us in the recreation. We played the game Assassin.

We then talked about how important our law enforcement agencies are to our communities and how it’s important to show our appreciation. We made homemade cards and drew pictures to give to the Comal County Sheriff's Department.  We also collected over $200 in Smoky Mo’s gift cards to give to them so they can have a meal on us. Gruene Kountry officers Lexi Golla, Levi Golla, and myself presented the gifts to the sheriff’s department.

Bluebonnet Meeting Report - October

Here is our meeting report from Atlee Homann, reporter.

Bluebonnet 4-H Club held their first in-person meeting since February on Sunday, 10/11/2020 at the Comal County Extension Office Amphitheatre.  We practiced social distancing but enjoyed seeing familiar faces.  Here are the highlights:

*We did a sock drive for Socktober!

*We installed our 2020-2021 officers that we had previously elected via a Zoom meeting.

*We discussed and prepared for our poinsettia sales, our major annual fundraiser.  Poinsettias can be ordered through any Bluebonnet 4-H member through November 8th.  The plants have always been great quality and are $13 each.  Estimated delivery is December 2nd.  Contact a Bluebonnet member or email Patty Hoffmann at hoffmann@gvtc.com if you'd like to order.

*We congratulated our member, Rylee Horak.  He had the Reserve Champion Market Broilers at the State Fair of Texas!

Gruene Kountry 4-H held their February meeting on February 16 at the Comal County Extension Office. We had 32 members present and 12 adults.  During the business meeting, we discussed eligibility forms, volunteering at the CCJLS, and the upcoming fundraiser.

For our program, we learned about leadership and leadership styles.

Keene Kreusler told us about the different 4-H offices we can run for next year. He described each office and the importance of them for our club. We did leadership games to find out what kind of leadership style we each possess and how we are all different but equally important!  We spelled our names and for each letter someone wrote one thing about us. We then each stood and said our name and one word about us. For our next activity, we had pictures of different types of shoes that represented different leadership styles on the wall and we each had to pick which one that we thought represented us the most. Then Keene told us the meaning of the shoes and we could move around to find our perfect fit.  We then passed out “Intent to Run” forms for anyone wishing to run for a club office.  The election will be in April.

 
For our community service project, we wrote thank you letters to deployed soldiers which will be sent along with our packaged food items we bought. 

Our next meeting will be on March 22 at the Comal County Extension office.

2018-2019 IRS Filing Instructions for Texas 4-H Club/Group 990 Forms

TIME SENSITIVE INFORMATION: THE DEADLINE FOR IRS FILING FOR ALL 4-H CLUBS/GROUPS IS DECEMBER 20, 2019  

THE PROCESS OF FILING AN IRS 990 FORM IS REQUIRED OF EVERY 4-H CLUB/GROUP THAT HAS AN ACTIVE EIN, REGARDLESS IF THE CLUB/GROUP IS MANAGING ANY MONEY.  

August 31st ended the fiscal year for all 4-H clubs and groups in Texas that are under the Texas 4-H, Inc. umbrella. With the end of the fiscal year, comes the requirement for ALL Texas 4-H, Inc. clubs and groups to file their annual information return (Form 990-N, 990 or 990-EZ). 

Due to the IRS website being down for maintenance every year in January, our deadline for clubs filing under Texas 4-H Inc. is December 20, 2019. However, you can file NOW! You do not have to wait. Any club or group that does not have a successful filing by that date could potentially be in jeopardy of having their EIN revoked by the IRS. Filing a club or group annual information return is accomplished by each club or group manager and treasurer working with County Extension Agents to complete and file an IRS Form 990.
